System of T.E.A.M.S

The Problem

Traditional hierarchical structures are not the most suitable formation for organisations to adopt in the globalised modern business world. While the traditional systems of command and control were robust and provided clear chains of authority, they lacked adaptability, being designed for an expected constant; very different to the environment we face now. The authority bestowed by this command structure, often resulted in the development of ineffective silo’s within business and empire building by managers. The exponential rate of change across industries, the fluidity of market preferences and expectations, coinciding with geopolitical and regional instabilities that have become the norm, demands that organisations are adaptable. Rather than maintaining traditional organisational structures, T.E.A.M.S provides organisations with a network model, where business teams operate interdependently, towards specific goals.

This system has been forged through our experiences developed during special operations with UK military and government organisations. We have identified how a small group of highly trained, well-motivated and focused individuals can achieve goals and objectives, which others view to be impossible. A network of small, agile teams possessing a shared base of knowledge, in addition to individual specialist skills, operating with decentralised decision making abilities but directed by an overarching executive, can empower organisations to perform concurrent activities, in support of wider objectives.

The Solution

We assess and analyse your existing organisation in order to determine where the value chains are, the communication lines and leakages, and the true positions of power within your teams. Fundamentally we provide you with an understanding of the human component of your organisation and encourage the growth of an interdependent partnership between teams.

So what….

Through identifying the strengths and weaknesses within your organisation and teams, we can determine the threats you face and the opportunities available, to make improvements to the effectiveness of your business. We will work with you, to determine and achieve the beneficial effects, through building an organisation that can operate effectively in the modern business environment. Through our system of T.E.A.M.S, we will help you to develop and enhance the five columns of high-performing teams; Trust, Excellence, Always Innovating, Measurable Success, Sharing Best Practice. Our tailored T.E.A.M.S workshop programme can consider each of the pillars, determining what they mean to you and providing you with achievable actions that can produce tangible outcomes.

Trust.

When people consider elite military and special operations units, they often believe that the most important factor that enables achievement against seemingly insurmountable odds, is training. While training and extreme physical conditioning is important, another factor is equally crucial. Trust.

Trust is difficult to define. A common theme amongst academic researchers that have considered this area is that it involves a level of confidence in the goodwill and honesty of another. In high-pressure, potentially hostile environments, trust takes on a deeper meaning. Team members know that together they will do whatever they can to get a job done and that they will look after each other in the process. Even making the ultimate sacrifice, for another team member, if required. There is no room in such teams for hidden agendas or behaviors aimed at gaining position at the cost of other team members.

The characteristics synonymous with these high–performing teams should be visible in business. Trust between business teams and team members, increases communication, commitment, and loyalty. It enables people to work together, and it is an enabler for social interactions. It can also improve team performance and increase the probability of business success.

Excellence

By empowering teams with flexibility, resources and the autonomy to make decisions, you foster the development of a fluid and high-performing environment, rather than one stifled by the chains of bureaucracy. The trust demonstrated by an organisations leadership towards its network of teams encourages the development of a highly motivated workforce, constantly striving to achieve and to improve. The clear communication of the high standards expected by business leadership from the onset and clarity between teams and team members of what they expect from each other, removes confusion, stress and conflict. This enables teams to focus upon the task at hand and to exceed expectations.

Always Innovating

Economic nationalism, digital integration, artificial intelligence and the ensuing alterations in customer behaviors are changing the face of the global economy. With the ever-increasing rate of developments, businesses must view the creation of new products, services and the development of new operational systems alongside the sale of goods and the delivery of services, in terms of importance.

Innovation should not be viewed as just another corporate buzz-word. Innovative developments have never been more important, with organisations racing to develop the next best thing. Any team member could identify an area, within which an organisation could grow or improve. In fact every single one should be looking for opportunities. Our system of T.E.A.M.S identifies and rectifies communication bottlenecks and leakages, avoiding the loss of one of your greatest assets, information.

Measuring Success

What does success look like? To your organisation, to your teams, to your team members? Do you measure your success in terms of revenue or value added. Perhaps both.

The development of the system of T.E.A.M.S within an organisation involves defining what success looks like and what values the organisation, teams and team members have.

Are they congruent with each other?

Does your organisation possess Value Driven Leadership © ?

It is important that you define what success looks like to you, rather than through the looking glass of others. We will work with you to help you determine a target state and to create a route map to achieving it.

Sharing best practice

Having defined the common values and success markers of your organisation, innovative products, solutions and services can be designed, which complement core principles and strategies. The improved lines of open communication created by the system of T.E.A.M.S, allows for the seamless passage of information across the team network. This will encourage and sustain the development of a collaborative culture within a business, which understands the common purpose and values it shares, and will enable the sharing of information between individuals and teams, for the benefit of the wider organisation.

By empowering individuals with the ability to make decisions and to communicate across lines that would be blocked in other more traditional business structures, efficiencies are created, innovative thoughts shared and developed and importantly managers and leaders can focus upon delivering strategic direction, encouraging team bonding and performance, rather than being responsible for micro-management and performance suppressing oversight.
